OUR BRAND

    The Company

Judith Leiber, the American luxury brand, is synonymous with elegance, style and sophistication. Each product is executed with meticulous attention to detail and flawless hand-craftsmanship. Judith Leiber has re-defined the accessories category with products that are on the cutting edge of high fashion while always remaining timeless classics.

Founded in 1963 by Hungarian-American designer Judith Leiber and her husband Gerson Leiber, the brand was created to offer the most innovative design coupled with the highest level of handcrafted quality that existed at the time. That same tradition continues today.

“I was determined to make my bags as beautiful as possible in line and shape, without ever compromising on materials and workmanship. I have never swerved from the goal,” says Judith Leiber.

Judith Leiber handbags and minaudières are favorites of VIPs from Hollywood starlets to international royalty and have been for nearly 50 years. Almost every First Lady dating back to 1953 has carried a Judith Leiber to the Presidential Inauguration ceremonies.

These artful handbags are part of the permanent design collections of The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, The Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., The Houston Museum of Fine Arts and the Los Angeles Museum of Art.

    Our Founder
Judith Leiber was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, where she trained with the Hungarian Handbag Guild during World War II, and was the first woman to become a Meister. In 1947, Mrs. Leiber immigrated to the United States after meeting and marrying Gerson Leiber, a U.S. soldier stationed in Budapest. After many years of working for the leading New York handbag manufacturers, the Leibers launched the eponymous company in 1963. In the ensuing years, the Leibers built the business into the only company of its kind – providing the highest quality, most well styled and unique product available. Mrs. Leiber earned accolades including the Coty American Fashion Critics Award and the Council of Fashion Designers of America Award. The couple sold the company and retired in 1998. They opened The Leiber Museum in Springs, New York in 2005 to house their respective creations and works of art.
